DHS Expands Electronic Record Project

March 25, 2009

California Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) Director Cindy Ehnes joined leaders from DHS at the QueensCare Family Clinics Hollywood site last month to announce $1.3 million in funding to expand an electronic data system developed by DHS over the past six years to the Public/Private Partner (PPP) clinics. The system, referred to as the Encounter Summary Sheet, will enable clinicians at any DHS or PPP site to quickly retrieve key patient medical information pulled from a data warehouse, such as prescribed medications, diagnostics, and past and future visits. Because PPP sites use disparate information systems, until now there has not been an efficient way to share a unified, electronic view of a patient across the DHS healthcare network. The project is seen as a vital step in reducing duplication of services and moving towards future adoption of an electronic health record.
